From the Guild of Fine Foods, Yorkshire-based Ribblesdale Cheese, will be hosting a cheese tasting evening at The Station Inn, Ribblehead, near Ingleton, on Thursday, October 28th from 7.30pm.
The local, award winning cheese maker, whose cheeses have featured in the recipes of celebrity chefs Gino d‘Acampo (BBC2’s Ready Steady Cook) and Simon Rimmer (BBC 2’s Something for the Weekend), and appear regularly on the menus of Michelin star restaurateurs including Gary Rhodes, will share how its award winning recipes have received national acclaim.
A wide selection of cheese will be available to taste, comparing local goat’s cheese, Wenslydale cow’s cheese, and blue cheese, with unusual cheeses from further afield. Iona Hill, from Ribblesdale Cheese will be explaining how to taste and enjoy the full flavour of delicious cheese. She admits she can talk about cheese until the cows come home.
Said Iona, “The evening will give people an opportunity to try out something new that they wouldn’t ordinarily choose, or enjoy local favourites. I’ll be giving people serving and recipe ideas, as well as helping them create a delicious cheese platter to complement any meal. Of course, tasting the cheeses in The Station Inn, means we can try them out with real ales and different wines.”
The Station Inn, recognised by the Campaign to Protect Rural England for its commitment to selling locally produced food, recently introduced a Ribblesdale Cheese menu board at the pub offering visitors the chance to try and buy the cheese. Said publican, Allan Shutt: “It’s proved very popular. We are proud to support local businesses by always using local produce, and the cheese tasting evening is another way to remind people of the fantastic local producers right here in the Dales.”
Ribblesdale Cheese, based in Hawes, has won a number of awards including a Gold Great Taste Award from The Guild of Fine Foods and a Bronze award at The British Cheese Awards.
