Our Christmas Present From the Biorenewables Development Centre, York University

I have been meaning to mention a project we have worked on with the Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC), a not-for-profit spin-out of the University of York.

Initially, they contacted me to see if we may benefit from their funded service, and as it turned out, we did!

After an initial discussion, we agreed that the best way they could help, was to undertake a full set of nutritional analyses of our cheeses for us.  Working with our project manager Rosie was a breeze; she took our brief on board and exceeded it, delivering not only the results but also some regulatory background and recommendations on what to do with the analysis.  This report now allows us to target larger sellers and enables us to send out full technical specs to interested customers, so we are really pleased with the outcome.  I do not think we would have got our cheese into Bettys without this.

So, for example, our Original Goat contains 377 Kcals per 100g, has 30.4g of fat and 22.4g of protein per 100g and has a moisture level of 40.4%.  Our best selling Superior Goat Gouda has contains 387 Kcals, 27.5g fat per 100g, protein of 22.1g, 31.9g fat  and also contains 40% moisture.

And just to clarify, when I say funded service, there was no financial cost to our business at all.  The BDC has funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to work with small to medium-sized businesses (that’s how we fit in!); and the only catch is that we needed to fill out a number of forms so that they can evidence that the funding is going where it should.  Seems a good deal in my book!
